Valleyfair Family Amusement Park Announces 1999 Capital Expansion Plans

SHAKOPEE, Minn., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Valleyfair Family Amusement Park today announced its capital expansion plans for the 1999 operating season. The multi-million dollar capital program, designed to continue Valleyfair's growth, includes construction of a new roller coaster and a second dormitory for seasonal labor.

The new roller coaster, Mad Mouse, will be constructed on the site of the current coaster, Rails. Mad Mouse is a family ride that offers big thrills. Manufactured by Arrow Dynamics Inc., Mad Mouse is 50 feet high and will have a ride height requirement of only 42 inches. The coaster also features a combination of sudden dips, serpentine curves and hairpin turns. Individual ``mouse'' cars, each holding four passengers, reach speeds of 30 m.p.h. as they travel along the 1,257 foot long track.

A second dormitory is also being built to the east of the park. This two-story building will house an additional 150 seasonal employees and demonstrates Valleyfair's continued commitment to hire quality employees.

``Valleyfair strives to provide a full-day of great family entertainment,'' said Walt Wittmer, Vice President and General Manager, Valleyfair. ``The new roller coaster is a perfect family ride and will be enjoyed by children as well as adults.''

Valleyfair is owned and operated by Cedar Fair, L.P. (NYSE: FUN - news). Valleyfair is located just southwest of the Twin Cities on County Rd 101, three miles east of Shakopee, Minn. Valleyfair's 1999 summer season opens for Preview Weekends on Saturday, May 8, with the Grand Opening Weekend scheduled for Saturday, May 29 through Monday, May 31.
