IT'S OFFICIAL....
STEEL EEL WILL OPEN ON
MARCH 6TH!!!
PRESS DAY IS MARCH 5TH!!!
03/01/99--Workers busy
working on walkway along brake run. Lot's of work going on around the station area.
Didn't see any trains while I was there. According to Paul's site SE has been
tested! (Yes, I know. I said my last update was 2 weeks ago but I didn't have
anything to do today and it was such a nice day out, I decided to go for a 200 mile drive
;) )
02/28/99--Coaster cars have
been spotted on the track! Only 6 more days till Sea World opens!!
02/20/99--As of today the
Steel Eel structure is complete.
02/16/99--For further
construction updates as Steel Eel nears completion, please visit Paul Young's site which
lately has had almost daily updates of the progress.
02/15/99--Almost done!!
There are only 6 pieces of track, and 1 support piece left in the receiving lot.
There are 2 long straight pieces, 1 short straight piece, and 3 small curved
pieces. There is one support left that will go for block brake (you can see it
missing in the new pictures). Hopfully the remaining pieces will be put together
quickly, the ride testing will go well, the station will be finished, and it will open on
March 6th as advertised. There will be no more construction updates on this site.
I hope you've enjoyed all my updates along with the pictures. I did the best
I could considering I live 90 miles away from Sea World.
01/30/99--Texas Winterfest
was awesome! Got to meet a lot of people, had a great time, and got some great pics
of Steel Eel from inside the park. Second hill complete, looks like most of the supports
for the third hill are in place. Construction workers were busy working while we
were touring the area.
01/18/99--Rise of second
hill complete! More supports in place for what the turn around before the camel back
run. Look for the next pictures to be from inside the park on January 30th.
Pictures will be posted on January 31st.
01/04/99--First drop
complete! 3 supports in place for rise of second hill. This ride can be seen
from IH-410 several miles away. Only 2 more months! Have a few new pictures
but it will be about 2 weeks before I post them (I need to use up the roll of film).
I'll post the pictures from today along with what I take in 2 weeks at the same time.
12/29/98-- Lift hill
complete, first drop about 75% complete. Welders were working in several different
spots when I was there.
12/14/98-- The lift hill is
almost to the top! There appears to be only one piece of lift track left in the
parking lot. A fourth camel back has been added. While taking pictures I
noticed that the Great White was running. It ran several times while I was in the
area. No one was on it though....you can see it in one of the pictures above.
11/29/98-- There are 3 hills
(rabbit hops, camel backs....whatever) and it appears that the lift hill has been
started. The top of the lift hill is in the receiving lot along with several large
supports and other track pieces.
