Silver Dollar City announces new theme park
(July 24, 2002)
The Silver Dollar City Corporation announced today its plans for a third gated
park, Celebration City, in Branson, Mo. Located on the former Branson USA site
near downtown, the new $40 million park's theme will focus on America's cultural
and technological advances through the first half of the 20th century, including
the role of entertainment.
"Within that time there were a lot of changes: electricity was just being
introduced and the car was coming into common use and worshiped in the '50s,"
said Bob Montgomery, vice president of Branson Attractions for Silver Dollar
City who has been tapped to run the new park.
One
of the components of that theme will be the nostalgia of an early-century
amusement park with 24 rides and attractions, about half of which are
vintage-style rides Silver Dollar City held onto after acquiring the Branson USA
property. The park also will build a 10-story-tall wooden roller coaster by
Great Coasters International.
A
veteran of the LEGO company, Montgomery helped open LEGOLAND Windsor and
LEGOLAND California.
